OK so the previous posts give u just a ‘flava’
of how I’m planning my lessons. I wanted to break it down into quarters for my readers (and myself)…as I mentioned before:
Quarter 1:
Creation unit
Quarter 2:
Moses-2 weeks
Jesus- 2 weeks(this layout is similar to Moses), ART-The Nativity by Girolamo dai Libri
Paul-1 week(this layout is similar to Moses), ART - early Christian symbols
The Bible in English-1 week (John Wycliffe) and/or William Tyndale,ART- Giotto and his contributions
Christopher Columbus-3 weeks- read his biography, ART - Leonardo da Vinci, GEO - Continent of Europe(Italy), rivers, lakes, etc.
I’m attempting to plan for 2 quarters…I’m taking a 2 week break between the 1st and 2nd quarter and prayerfully be able to fine tune any ‘gaps’ that I see in my plan.
Hopefully this will give u some ideas for writing your own. I still feel like I need more ideas but I know the more I get experienced at writing and teaching and assigning ‘activities’, especially writing activities, word studies, t-charts, web charts, etc. the easier it will become.
I look forward to starting. In the next week or so I”ll go to the library and get whaever resources I need. I’m excited!

Some people would define these terms as one and the same. One lady on Vegsource.com defined unit study as a study of one topic but it includes ALL the subjects which mine do not…so whatever one would want to call them they are what they are….

- In spite fo paganism in Egypt Moses believed in the God of his forefathers
Subjects covered: Literature (of Moses)
- Identify literary elements in Moses’ story
- ancient writings (hieroglyphics)(??)
- writings of Moses-1st five books of bible(??)
Subjects covered: Geography (of Moses-Egypt)

subjects covered: ART (of Moses-Egypt)
- study how the Egyptians depicted ’subject matter’ in their sculputure/painting
- give assignment on depicting selected ’subject matter’ in art assignment
I plan 2 weeks for this unit. Sometimes I feel this is not intricate enough but I’ve decided not to sweat it. Once I’m in the study other ideas may come up but my objective here is just to introduce my children to the principle(they already know the story of Moses) and do a little ‘expansion’ on the subject and principle.

This is what I have so far. I plan to take the entire 1st quarter on this
one…..I’m going to follow up in another post with the how I have the Moses
link laid out….different links seem to lend themselves toward including
different (or very few) other subjects) from what I can see right now in my
understanding AND lends themselves to different ‘activities’. Prayerfully as I
continue to grow and mature and understand more I can include more. I had many
reservations about doing unit study b/c I did not want the ‘INDIVIDUALITY’ of
each subject to get lost in the unit so that is whyy I’m highlighting the
SUBJECTS of Creation in this unit. I feel that is a good way to start the year
AT THE BEGINNING of ALL THINGS…even the beginning of subjects of study..it all
starts with Creation…As you see this can take off in many directions depending
on what u feel u want to emphasize.
Also, as I’ve been studying/reading I’v come to realize that each subject has it’s own
principles, and so I’m endeavoring to pull those out so as not to lose them
under the ‘Governing Principle’…
