What was impressed upon me throughout every lesson I read was ‘consecration’. God had been dealing with me about consecration before our assignment was given so when I read this in T&L it confirmed this word from the Lord and also blessed me…let me know that God was ordering my steps to be in this SDS for one thing J
Under the title ‘The Blessings of America” on page xvii it says in about the 4th paragraph down, “ The battle today is for men’s hearts and souls. It is not a battle for men’s minds. The mind will believe only what the heart, the character, the conscience, of an individual dictates. We cannot rely alone on INFORMATION, but we must depend upon CONSECRATION-‘as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart’ “.
Webster’s gives 3 definitions, I will only use the 1st one. It says:
CONSECRATION, n.
1. The act or ceremony of separating form a common to a sacred use, or of devoting and dedicating a person or thing to the service and worship of God, by certain rites or solemnities. Consecration does not make a person or thing really holy, but declares it to be sacred, that is, devoted to God or to divine service; as the consecration of the priests among the Israelites; the consecration of the vessels used in the temple; the consecration of a bishop.
As I read Daniel all I saw was that Daniel kept his consecration to God and made a decision to serve God in all that he went thru; thru all the pressure put on him he kept himself from that which would defile him and which would come between him and God. That is my prayer for my children. I also believe this a major underlying principle in God’s Principle of Individuality..that there is a purpose for every individual and for each person’s individuality…God made you the way u are b/c He has a purpose for you to fulfill that is unique to each person’s individuality. A major key to fulfilling that purpose is to make a distinction between what is clean and unclean…to keep onself ‘consecrated’ and set apart to be kept true and pure for fulfilling their God-given purpose.
Psalm 4:3
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
…among many other scriptures
Now what really blessed me is this is what God gave me to pray over our children in our Moms In Touch homeschool group BEFORE our lessons in SDS.
John 17:15-17
I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.
They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.
Now further down Jesus is still speaking but I had never seen this before last week.
John 17:19-20(Amp)
And so for their sake and on their behalf I sanctify (dedicate, consecrate) Myself, that they also may be sanctified (dedicated, consecrated, made holy) in the Truth.
Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching,
Now this is what I see as one of my most important roles as a parent is to live and/or model(from the heart) the life that I desire my children to live. Jesus said that FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE HE WAS PRAYING FOR-HIS DISCIPLES-THAT HE CONSECRATED HIMSELF SO THAT THOSE FOLLOWING HIM WOULD BE ABLE TO BE SANCTIFIED AND CONSECRATED. And He does this not just for them but for those who will believe on THEIR word…for a servant is not greater than his master
John 13:15-17
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
It just brings it home to me with a greater PUNCH that as much as I want to influence my children for God and for good that there MUST be a consecration, a decisive dedication in my mind and heart to continue on in the will of God that He has made known to me; the way He has made clear that He wants me to walk in. It’s what I do, how I live, I believe, that affects my children the greatest. I believe more is caught than taught J or rather I teach all the time whether I’m talking or not. This will affect not only my children but those my children will reach with the gospel – grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and others who are touched by their lives.
Over in II Timothy 2:21 I see here again, consecration…where once I’ve asked the Lord to sanctify my children thru His Word-His Word being truth then as they mature, my children have a duty(and must be taught) to govern themselves according to II Tim 2:20-23…that in order for them to be vessels of honor they must cleanse themselves, live lives separate and apart from what is “ignoble and unclean…”
II Tim 2:19-21
19But the firm foundation of (laid by) God stands, sure and unshaken, bearing this seal (inscription): The Lord knows those who are His, and, Let everyone who names [himself by] the name of the Lord give up all iniquity and stand aloof from it.(A)
20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also [utensils] of wood and earthenware, and some for honorable and noble [use] and some for menial and ignoble [use].
21So whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean, who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences] will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work.
I’m sorry this was so long…I didn’t mean for it to become a dissertation…this has been in my heart and head for days and I just decided to share it.
